There *is* a hardwired limit to the number of BATs in the system. This has repercussions on the number of tables and columns in the system, but not in an entirely straightforward manner. The maximum number of BATs in the system on a 64-bit architecture is 1000*2**14-1 = 16383999.

Hi
There are no hardwired limitations on the number tables and columns. Recent inhouse experiments were ran with 20-60K tables of 3 columns each.

Is there a configured maximum number of tables supported by a MonetDB instance?
Maximum number of columns in a table?
What's the rough size of metadata per column at run-time?
Thanks, - Masood
