Hi
There are no hardwired limitations on the number tables and columns. Recent inhouse experiments were ran with 20-60K tables of 3 columns each.

There *is* a hardwired limit to the number of BATs in the system. This has repercussions on the number of tables and columns in the system, but not in an entirely straightforward manner. The maximum number of BATs in the system on a 64-bit architecture is 1000*2**14-1 = 16383999.

For what it's worth:
... which is indeed significantly lower than the max number of table or columns that the our SQL catalog could practically handle: with table and column IDs being represented as (signed) 32-bit integers, there could at most be 2**31-1 = 2147483647 tables/columns --- most probably in the entire life-span of a database, and ID od delete tables/columns might not be re-used ...
