Perhaps we should consider the possibility of adoption the C99 fixed-width types, in <stdint.h>? (There's also a standard boolean type in <stdbool.h>). --Eyalroz (talk) 14:12, 7 October 2015 (CEST)

Using standard types is certainly a good idea. However, making that change is far from trivial. We use the type names not only as types, but also as part of function names. And sometimes those names are generated by concatenation of the arguments of C preprocessor macros which are then also used as the type. Using _Bool is not possible because we need three values: True, False and NIL. Also note that (unfortunately) the whole world isn't yet C99 (I know that providing an alternative implementation for deficient compilers is trivial, except for the _Bool type). We use Visual Studio 2010 on Windows which is lagging. (And we can't yet use VS 2015 since it doesn't include the capability of building installers--we'd have to come up with an alternative first). --Sjoerd (talk) 14:41, 7 October 2015 (CEST)
