I have to correct myself ... was meant to say: You are not using the correct command to create your *db farm*.

Your error message: [- opt -] monetdb create /opt/monetdb monetdb: cannot find a control socket, use -h and/or -p

so if you are planning to create your db farm, use instead: monetdb*d* create /opt/monetdb
