News highlights

May 2011 The website is been revamped and moved to a content management system. It requires continual attention, but maintenance using Drupal is greatly simplified.
March 2011 The final release of MonetDB XQuery is being prepared. A two-step approach is taken to ensure easy migration of our user-community. The aftershock of the code split is to start a big code cleanup. It is aimed at removing experimental and legacy code and will certainly take the rest of the year before it becomes visible in the code being released.
February 2011 A decision has been taken to split the code base into MonetDB/SQL and MonetDB/XQuery. The latter will be frozen from here on. The consequence is that we abandon the mserver4 kernel, its MIL language, and supportive tools. All development will be focused on the SQL stack. The separation is effectuated using two feature release steps in March 2011 and April 2011.
January 2011 After many years using the abstracted bridge from a painting of Monet, we have decided to involve a designer to carve out a new logo. The challenge was to find an evolutionary step that expresses MonetDB's quality, leanness, fast system, and agile code base. The strong arches unite artists quality with a database core in an evolving flow from research to product deployment.
